The Lodge

The Land

Place

Grey Buffalo Grandfather Wellness Lodge is located within Treaty 1 Territory – traditional lands of our Anishinaabeg, Anishininiwak, Ininiwak, Dakota, Dene, and Inuit relatives and the homeland of the Métis Nation.

The land was previously stewarded by the family of Constance (Connie) Eyolfson (nee Thomas). Connie was a long-time community activist and held many roles throughout her career including vice-president of Manitoba Métis Federation Southeast Region and acting president of the MMF (1972-74). Connie opened the Strong Earth Woman Lodge in 1992 on the land adjacent to what is now home to Grey Buffalo Grandfather. Prior to her transition onto the Spirit World in 2002, Connie supported countless people on their healing journey.

In 2005, Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata (Ma Mawi) purchased 77 acres from the Eyolfson family. In 2022, as the new lodge was nearing completion, Connie’s daughters joined Ma Mawi in ceremony and gifted the name Grey Buffalo Grandfather.

The lodge is a spacious 5,600 square-feet and hosts 12 guest rooms split between two wings that sleep up to 36 guests. Both wings have a shared washroom space with private showers and full height partitions. Guest rooms vary in size and bed configuration to meet the needs of youth camps, family gatherings, and corporate retreats.

The award-winning open concept design of our communal space provides flexibility for a range of activities and gathering formats. Furniture can be assembled to meet the needs of each group.

The open concept design extends out to a wrap-around deck, green space, and into the forest where we are continuing to expand our trails and walkways to support outdoor programming.
